(This blog entry is dedicated to John's wife - you know who you are. And for the rest of you, please know that John and I went to high school together, and he recently contacted me over Facebook to let me know that his wife reads my blog [small squeal] and a few weeks ago, she had him remove their dining room chandelier so she could repaint it, similar to what I did with our foyer chandelier. Since then, she has had him remove several other lighting fixtures around the house to update them, and that just makes me so happy to know someone was inspired by something I wrote. John, of course, is none too happy since his 'honey-do' list continues to grow. Regardless, thank you, John's wife, for enjoying the blog - I really though my 12 hits a day were from my mother - and keep on redecorating. You, my dear, are a domestic goddess.)
I am sooo excited to highlight some of my favorite spots of the new house...except the battery in camera is dead. And I can't find the charger since it was lost in the move. But...I will find it. And when I do, I plan to highlight some fun, functional aspects of our new house that ideas that maybe you an incorporate into your own. I'm a huge believer that form ALWAYS follows function, so everything in your home should not only be pretty, but useful first.
In the meantime, as I dig through tons and tons of boxes in an effort to find my charger (and I put the damn thing somewhere telling myself, "If I put it [here,] I will never lose it again. So much for that.), let me offer this tip that I learned from HGTV and continue to follow today:
Decorating tip #1:
If you are working with a small space or want to make a space feel bigger, always hang a mirror opposite of a window...because you will 'let' the outdoors in.
