On Monday, we found that. In one word.
Grandma.
My mom is now on the ground in Vegas and kicking some serious tail. Our baby is up 2 oz from yesterday (!!!), his bili levels are down to 10.7 (very good), I am sleeping and eating again, Brian is back to work. and even the cat appears more content. Grandma took over the night feedings (while I only had to get up to pump) and I cannot tell you the difference this makes; sleep is truly a blessing and makes everything that much clearer. Thank God for Grandma.
As I type, she is at the grocery store picking up real food. We have since planned a menu for the week that doesn't involve ordering food by number ("I'll take a #6 with a large Coke...") and contains actual vegetables. I guess ketchup doesn't count.
So as you can see, things are on the up-swing. Scotty is blessedly up to 7lbs, 15oz. The ped wants to see him up to 8lbs, 2oz by Friday, and she told us that she will be treating Friday like a standard 2-week appointment, nothing more. She reiterated the admitting ER doc's words that last week was essentially nothing more than a speed bump. Traumatizing as it was for us as parents, he should experience absolutely no long-term effects from anything. He continues to be a happy, healthy, plump, pink little baby that makes cute cooing noises and sleeps like a...well, a baby.
Big thanks, too, to my sister and Jake and of course, new cousin Ben. As of last Thursday, they sent a bassinet, baby scale, sheets for the bassinet and some sterile bags for breast milk immediately upon hearing about Scotty's condition. It all arrived yesterday and we put it together in about 5.4 seconds. I cannot tell you how helpful this equipment is. We can safely place Scotty with us downstairs while we are in the kitchen or living area, and we know he is safe and not about to roll into a couch cushion or something. Especially since they are going through exactly the same thing we are (happy 2-week birthday, Ben!), we so appreciate them thinking about us and being so generous. THANK YOU!!!
Also, I need to add this as a Vegas PSA: it has come to my attention that Capriotti's Sandwich Shop (home of the official sandwich to pregnant and post-partum women: the Bobby) is now also selling individual Nothing Bundt Cakes. We stopped by this morning for a few Bobbies and ended up with a little lemon cake (me) and a carrot cake (my mom). This is like the heavens aligning -- my favorite sandwich with my favorite dessert. Any fears for me re: post-partum depression are officially moot, since this new discovery seriously boosted my mood into stratospheric levels. God bless the Bobby and Nothing Bundt Cake.
Happy September!
